UNESCO Multistakeholder Dialogue on Culture and Arts Education, Paris
Prof Benjamin Jörissen (PhD) speaking on the topic of digitalization and AI in cultural education
In preparation for the next UNESCO World Conference on Culture and Arts Education, which will take place in December 2023 in the United Arab Emirates, UNESCO organized an expert meeting on May 25 and 26, 2023, where more than 400 participants from all over the world gathered in Paris to exchange ideas on topics such as “Access and Inclusion”, “Contextual Learning”, “Resilience and Well-being”, “Lifelong Learning”, etc. and to contribute their expertise to the UNESCO Framework for Culture and Arts Education, which is currently being developed.
Prof. Benjamin Jörissen (PhD), as holder of the UNESCO Chair in Arts and Culture in Education at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, spoke as an expert on cultural education, (post-)digital culture and AI in the Parallel Session “Digital technologies and AI: culture and arts education at the helm of the technology frontier” on the topic “Digitalization in Culture & Arts Education: Chances, challenges and opportunities for action”. In his lecture, Jörissen first presented relevant results from different, thematically relevant research and dissertation projects that have been carried out in the context of his chair in recent years. He concluded his presentation with four recommendations for the further development and transformation of the field of arts education. In these, he spoke decidedly in favor of:
- a professionalization of teachers and educators in the field of (post-)digital culture,
- new alliances between the arts, education and new technologies,
- participatory research designs that allow for a faster acquisition of new knowledge as well as a more efficient transfer of knowledge into practice, and for
- the (re)invention of (new) areas of cultural and arts education that allow, for example, a connection with projects on cultural sustainability as well as with new fields of practice such as Sustainable Making and Designing and Citizen Science.
